Special Dean's Award
Full tuition for a Master's at Wits, awarded to members of the Wits HPC team for national and international student supercomputing results.
The Dean's Special Award goes to a student or group of students who have gone the extra mile to represent the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment and the University on a global stage. It includes full tuition for a master's degree within the Faculty.
The 2025 awards booklet gives the award to two fourth-year Information Engineering students on the Wits High Performance Computing team, led by Professor Ling Cheng. The citation is for outstanding results in student supercomputing competitions at national and international level. I was one of the two.
What the citation covers
- The 2025 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge, where the team reached the final round in China as one of 25 finalists.
- The Wits HPC team representing South Africa at the ISC Student Cluster Competition in Hamburg in 2024 and 2025.
- The CHPC National Student Cluster Competition, where Wits has consistently been a top performer.
