The fair's own results page calls the North Gauteng Science Fair the oldest science fair in South Africa. In 2019, its 40th year, 527 learners took part in eight events and 115 were awarded gold medals.

I entered a robot for exploring caves. It won:

  • A gold medal.
  • The special prize for the best project in the GrottoBot challenge, sponsored by SAAB Grintek Defence.
  • The special prize for the second-best project overall, sponsored by TT3 Repairs. The results page lists me in second place overall.

I also won the fair's 3D printing competition, which was judged on speed and accuracy, and I was selected for the national SA-YESS symposium.

The robot has its own entry: GrottoBot cave robot.
